{Summer Photo Project} | Cool Stuff!

Saturday, June 26th, 2010

I came across something fun tonight…

Kelly over at Willet Designs has a fun little project to do with your kiddos this Summer…

you have to go check it out!

Willet Design’s 100 Summer Photo Ideas

This is going to be great little Summer project for me! I can’t wait to start it. :)

It will help me to remember to bring the camera along on our little everyday Summer outings,

as well as give us some fun ideas of activities when I get the inevitable  question

“Mom what are we doing today?”

I am thinking of making our collection of photos into a book at the end of the Summer.

It would be a neat little documentation of what we did all Summer. :)

Thanks Kelly!!

urban vegetable garden {week 2} | photographing the everyday

Sunday, April 25th, 2010

This begins week three of our urban vegetable garden. I am amazed at how fast everything is growing! Two weeks of growing and we already have tons of strawberries, the beans are sprouting like crazy, the tomatoes have flowered and now have little green tomatoes growing on them, we have tiny little squash blossoms ready to bloom and the seeds are all sprouting. We are all enjoying watching the process. My kids are getting excited about eating what they are going. Plan is going exactly as I had hoped. ;)

I will be back next week with another update.

urban vegetable garden {week 1} | photographing the everyday

Sunday, April 18th, 2010

The gardening gene seems to be in my blood. Everyone in my family has a deep love of gardening. My grandparents were avid gardeners and spent hours upon hours in their garden. You could always find them there when you went for a visit. My children’s favorite thing to do during their visits to their great grandparent’s house was to water their garden and even had their own watering cans. My mother has always had a rather green thumb and since I was a child has spent a lot of time in the garden. My brothers both work for Landscape companies and work with plants on a daily basis. Then there is me. I wasn’t blessed with the family’s “green thumb” but rather was cursed with a “black thumb”.  I really haven’t had a lot of luck with gardening and haven’t really spent much time gardening because of it. I was talking to my dad the other day and we concluded that I must get the black thumb from him. ;) Well this year I plan on changing that black thumb into a green one. One week ago we planted our urban vegetable garden in our backyard. We made some raised beds, had a truck of good soil delivered {boy there was a lot !}, then planted the plants and seeds I had purchased at a local nursery a couple of weeks ago. I am excited about embarking on this little adventure of growing our own food, as well as enjoying eating it! I am doing this for my children so they can see where their food comes from and how things grow. My lil guy isn’t the best eater, so I am hoping this helps encourage him in trying some new delicious foods that he helped grow. I think I am going to have to add a couple more planters because the three we made are already overflowing with all sorts of delicious goodies. There are a few more things I didn’t get planted that I would like to so having a little more room will be nice. We will be working on that in the coming weeks. For now though I will have fun watching what we have already planted grow. Here are a few pictures I took this evening of the garden’s progress so far. It is exciting to be able to pick and eat some of the strawberries that took off in the past week since we planted them. One benefit of buying plants rather than starting from seeds. Boy are they delish!

Until next time!

Veggie gardens seem to be all the rage this year… you may want to considering planting one of your own. It doesn’t need to be elaborate it can be even be planted in containers on a patio. There are all sorts of options when it comes to the urban vegetable garden. Experiment and have fun!

coming soon… {week in the life} | photography challenge

Saturday, April 3rd, 2010

ETA: I have to put this off for a bit… things got a little crazy this week… I think I will try for the first week of May.

Monday, April 19th is the day I am starting the {week in the life} photography challenge. (I will be following along with Ali.) I think it is important to capture all the little normal daily stuff in our lives as it is to capture the big things…so I am planning to spend one week documenting our life as a family. I will take my camera with me everywhere I go and photograph all the little & big things we do during the week.

I invite you to follow along if you would like. I am interested to see where this journey will take me. I am still deciding on how I will put this together… I am thinking I might do a ” week in the life” album for our family and document a few weeks out of the year in it, possibly one each season. We will see how it comes together later. For now I want to concentrate on taking the photographs.
